A+ and Security+ are both entry-level CompTIA certifications, but A+ proves general IT support skills while Security+ proves cybersecurity skills. A+ is usually the first cert in an IT career; Security+ is the first dedicated security cert.

If you are starting in IT support, A+ comes first. If you already work in IT or specifically want a security role, you can skip straight to Security+: A+ is not a prerequisite. The classic ladder is A+, then Network+, then Security+.
