ISO

International Organization for Standardization

A body that publishes standards such as the ISO 27000 security series.

ISO is an international standards body whose publications shape security governance, most notably the 27000 family covering information security management systems. ISO 27001 specifies requirements organizations can be certified against, while ISO 27002 offers control guidance. Adopting these frameworks helps demonstrate due diligence to customers, regulators, and auditors. ISO standards are voluntary frameworks rather than laws, though contracts or regulations may require conformance.
