Free Security+ Practice Exam: 90 Questions, Timed
A free account comes with one full-length Security+ SY0-701 practice exam: 90 questions in 90 minutes, four performance-based questions up front, and the rest spread across the five domains by CompTIA's published weights. When you submit, you get a score on the 100 to 900 scale and a breakdown by domain and objective.
It is one fixed paper, the same 90 questions for every free account, and it is graded once. A plan builds a new exam every time you sit one and opens the answer review.

What's on the paper
The paper was drawn the way a paid sitting is and then fixed, so each domain's share of the questions follows CompTIA's weighting.
- Questions
- 90
- Minutes
- 90
- PBQs
- 4
- To pass
- 750
| Domain | Weight | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0 General Security Concepts | 12% | 11 |
| 2.0 Threats, Vulnerabilities, and Mitigations | 22% | 20 |
| 3.0 Security Architecture | 18% | 16 |
| 4.0 Security Operations | 28% | 25 |
| 5.0 Security Program Management and Oversight | 20% | 18 |
How the sitting runs
- A 90-minute countdown that submits for you at zero. Anything left blank is marked wrong.
- The four performance-based questions come first, then multiple choice with the domains mixed together.
- Flag anything you want to come back to. There is no navigator and no answered count while the clock runs, so Previous and Next are how you move.
- Pause it if you need a break and finish later. Cancel it before you submit and nothing is scored, so you can start it again.
- No feedback on any question until you finish. The exam ends on an item review that lists every question and calls out the ones you left incomplete or flagged.
What you get back
- Whether you cleared 750, the Security+ pass mark.
- A score on CompTIA's 100 to 900 scale. It is an estimate, because CompTIA doesn't publish how it turns answers into that number.
- Your results by domain and by objective, so you can see where the points went.
- The answers and explanations once you have a plan, for this sitting too.

When to sit it
You get one graded sitting, so save it for when the result can change what you do next. That is usually after you have studied all five domains and a week or two before your exam date, which leaves time to fix whatever it turns up.
Sit it the way you will sit the real one: in one go, for the full 90 minutes (leave the pause button alone), with no notes and your phone in another room. A score you got with lookups and breaks tells you less than an honest one.
Then read the result with care. A practice score and the real scaled score measure different things, so a practice score is not a prediction, and 750 is not 83 percent. The domain breakdown is often the more useful half.

Security+ practice exam FAQ
Is the Security+ practice exam really free?
Yes. A free account comes with one full sitting: 90 questions, 90 minutes, a scaled score and a breakdown by domain and objective. You don't need a card. The paper is fixed, so every free account gets the same 90 questions, and the answer review comes with a plan. How many questions are on the free practice exam?
There are 90, with a 90-minute clock. It opens with four performance-based questions, and the five domains get 11, 20, 16, 25 and 18 questions, which follows CompTIA's published weights of 12, 22, 18, 28 and 20 percent. How close is it to the real Security+ exam?
It runs on the same terms: up to 90 questions in 90 minutes, PBQs at the start, the domains weighted the way CompTIA publishes them, and a score on the 100 to 900 scale with 750 to pass. The questions are original, written to the SY0-701 objectives, and none of them come from the real exam, which CompTIA keeps confidential. CompTIA doesn't publish how it turns answers into a scaled score, so the score here is an estimate. Can I take it more than once?
It is graded once. If you cancel before you submit, nothing is scored and you can start again on the same paper. A plan builds a new exam every time you sit one and puts questions you have not seen first. What score means I am ready to book?
Nobody can convert a practice score into a pass, ours included. Treat 750 as the floor rather than the goal, and read the domain breakdown as closely as the total: a passing total can hide a domain you got mostly wrong.Do I need an account?
Yes, a free one. You can sign up with Google, Discord, GitHub or an email address. The other free tools on the site, like the 30-question practice test and the graded PBQ, work without one.
One full exam, free
Make a free account, take the placement check, and the practice exam is waiting at the end of it. Domain 1 comes with it: every lesson, lab and practice question. No card.
New accounts get 40% off both plans for 7 days: the 90-Day Pass is $23.40 instead of $39.
