The SDLC describes the phases of building software, typically planning, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance, providing a structure into which security activities are integrated. Embedding controls such as threat modeling, secure coding standards, and code review early is far cheaper than fixing defects after release, the idea behind shifting security left. On the exam it is associated with secure development, DevSecOps, and managing change throughout an application's life.
