A Personal Electronic Device is a personally owned gadget, such as a smartphone, tablet, or wearable, that may introduce risk when brought into the workplace. These devices can exfiltrate data, bypass network controls, or carry malware onto corporate systems, and they often fall outside centralized management. Acceptable use policies, BYOD programs, and mobile device management help govern how such devices connect and what data they may access. The concern overlaps with shadow IT, where unsanctioned technology operates outside oversight.
