Role-Based Access Control
Access granted based on a user's assigned role.
Role-Based Access Control grants permissions to roles tied to job functions, and users receive access by being assigned to those roles rather than configured individually. This simplifies administration, supports least privilege, and makes onboarding and audits more consistent in large organizations. The contrast with attribute-based access control is that RBAC is coarser and cannot natively weigh dynamic conditions like time or location. It also differs from rule-based access control, which enforces system-wide conditional rules rather than identity-driven roles.
