Rule-Based Access Control
Access decided by system-enforced rules such as ACL conditions.
Rule-Based Access Control enforces access through predefined conditions applied uniformly by the system, such as access control list entries that permit or deny traffic based on criteria like time of day, source address, or port. The rules apply regardless of the user's identity or role, which distinguishes it from role-based access control that grants rights by job function. Firewalls and routers commonly implement this model. The shared RBAC abbreviation makes context essential when interpreting an exam question.
