Subject Alternative Name / Storage Area Network
A certificate field listing extra identities, or a dedicated high-speed block-storage network.
SAN is an overloaded acronym on SY0-701. As Subject Alternative Name it is the X.509 certificate extension that lets one certificate cover multiple hostnames or IP addresses, which modern browsers require instead of relying on the common name. As Storage Area Network it is a dedicated high-speed network that presents block storage to servers as if it were local. Read the surrounding context to tell which sense applies. In a certificates or PKI question it means Subject Alternative Name; in an infrastructure or storage question it means Storage Area Network.
