UTP

Common network cabling without electromagnetic shielding.

UTP is common copper network cabling whose twisted pairs reduce crosstalk but provide no electromagnetic shielding, leaving it more susceptible to interference than shielded variants. It can also emit signals that, in high security settings, raise emanation concerns addressed by shielding or distance. Choosing shielded cable or fiber may be warranted in electrically noisy or sensitive environments. On the exam UTP contrasts with STP and with fiber, which resists interference and eavesdropping entirely.
