An APT is not a single tool but a well-funded, patient adversary, frequently a nation-state or organized group, that gains a foothold and maintains covert access for months to pursue espionage or sabotage. These actors favor stealth, lateral movement, and living-off-the-land techniques to evade detection rather than smash-and-grab tactics. For the exam, associate APTs with high capability and persistence on the threat-actor spectrum, and contrast them with opportunistic script kiddies who lack sophistication and long-term objectives.
