Distributed Denial-of-Service
A flood of traffic from many sources that overwhelms a target service.
A Distributed Denial-of-Service attack floods a target with traffic from many compromised sources, often a botnet, to exhaust bandwidth, connections, or compute so a service becomes unavailable. Because the traffic arrives from thousands of addresses at once, it is far harder to filter than a single-source DoS. Common defenses include upstream scrubbing services, rate limiting, anycast distribution, and content delivery networks.
