BIA

Business Impact Analysis

The process that identifies critical functions and the impact of their loss, producing RTO and RPO.

A BIA identifies an organization's critical functions and quantifies the operational and financial impact if they are disrupted, providing the foundation for continuity and recovery planning. Its key outputs include the recovery time objective, the tolerable downtime, and the recovery point objective, the tolerable data loss, along with priorities for restoration. On the exam, treat the BIA as an early, analytical step that feeds the BCP and disaster recovery plan, and do not confuse RTO with RPO since they measure different dimensions.
