Automatically assigns IP addresses and network settings to hosts.
The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol automatically assigns IP addresses, subnet masks, gateways, and DNS servers to hosts as they join a network. Because clients trust the first server to answer, a rogue DHCP server can hand out a malicious gateway or DNS setting for on-path attacks, which DHCP snooping on switches is designed to block. It uses UDP ports 67 and 68.
