DNS

Domain Name System

Resolves human-readable names to IP addresses; a frequent attack and exfiltration channel.

The Domain Name System resolves human-readable names like example.com into IP addresses and underpins almost all internet communication. It is a frequent abuse channel through cache poisoning, spoofing, fast-flux hosting, and DNS tunneling for covert data exfiltration. DNSSEC adds cryptographic signatures to protect integrity, and DNS query logging is a high-value detection source for a security operations center.
