IRP

Incident Response Plan

The documented procedures for detecting and handling incidents.

An IRP is the documented set of procedures that guides how an organization detects, reports, and responds to security incidents, including escalation paths and roles. It turns incident response theory into repeatable action under pressure, reducing confusion during a live event. The plan should be tested through tabletop or simulation exercises and updated after each real incident. It is distinct from disaster recovery and business continuity plans, which focus on restoring operations after disruption.
