A 128-bit cryptographic hash function that is now broken and must not be used for security.
MD5 produces a 128-bit digest and was once common for integrity checks and password hashing, but practical collision attacks make it unsuitable for any security purpose today. Attackers can craft two different inputs with the same MD5 hash, defeating its use in signatures and certificates. It may still appear for non-adversarial checksums, but SY0-701 treats it as deprecated alongside SHA-1. The recommended replacements are the SHA-2 and SHA-3 families.
