Potentially Unwanted Program
Software bundled with a download that is not outright malware but is undesirable.
A PUP is software that installs alongside a wanted application, such as a toolbar, adware, or a system optimizer, that the user did not intend to install and that may degrade performance or privacy. PUPs sit in a gray area between legitimate software and malware, and endpoint protection often flags them separately. The term overlaps with bloatware, unwanted software preinstalled or bundled with a system. On the exam, connect PUPs and bloatware to the hardening step of removing unnecessary software.
