Remote Access Server
A server that provides remote users access to a network.
A Remote Access Server accepts inbound connections and grants remote users entry to a private network's resources, historically over dial-up and now more often through VPN gateways. It is a control point where authentication, authorization, and logging are enforced before access is allowed. Because it exposes the internal network to outside connections, it is a high-value target that warrants strong authentication, encryption, and monitoring. Hardening the RAS and pairing it with MFA reduces the risk of unauthorized remote entry.
