An encrypted protocol for remote administration and tunneling.

Secure Shell provides an encrypted channel for remote administration, secure file transfer, and port forwarding, replacing clear text tools like Telnet and rlogin. It supports strong authentication through public key pairs, which are preferred over passwords and underpin automation. Risks include unmanaged or orphaned keys granting persistent access and weak host key verification enabling man in the middle attacks. On the exam, associate SSH with secure remote access, key based authentication, and as the transport beneath SFTP.
