An XML standard for exchanging authentication and authorization data for SSO.
SAML is an XML based standard that lets an identity provider pass signed authentication and authorization assertions to service providers, enabling web single sign on across organizations. It is common in enterprise federation where one login grants access to many applications. On the exam it is often contrasted with OAuth, which handles delegated authorization, and OpenID Connect, which adds an identity layer on OAuth and is more typical for modern web and mobile apps.
