A protocol that automates issuing and renewing device certificates at scale.
SCEP automates the enrollment of certificates onto large numbers of devices, which is why mobile device management platforms use it to provision client certificates to phones and laptops without manual steps. It streamlines requesting, issuing, and renewing certificates against a certificate authority. Because automated enrollment can be abused if its shared challenge or trust setup is weak, it should run over protected channels with proper authorization. On the exam, connect SCEP to scalable certificate provisioning, especially through MDM.
