User Datagram Protocol
A fast, connectionless transport protocol used in floods and amplification.
UDP is a connectionless transport protocol that sends datagrams without a handshake or delivery guarantees, which makes it fast and well suited to streaming and DNS. The lack of session state also makes it easy to spoof the source address, so it is frequently abused in flood and amplification attacks that reflect large responses off open servers. The exam contrast is TCP, which is connection oriented and reliable but slower because of its three way handshake.
