RTP

Real-Time Transport Protocol

A protocol for delivering audio and video streams over IP networks.

RTP carries real-time media such as voice and video for applications like VoIP and conferencing, typically over UDP, with companion RTCP providing delivery statistics. Plain RTP is unencrypted, so its secure variant SRTP adds confidentiality and message authentication to protect calls from eavesdropping and tampering. Signaling protocols like SIP set up the session while RTP carries the media itself. On the exam, pair RTP with SRTP as the secure choice and SIP as the related signaling protocol.
