Encrypts and authenticates voice and video media streams.
Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol provides encryption, message authentication, and replay protection for the audio and video media streams in voice and video over IP. It secures the media carried by RTP, while signaling is typically protected separately by protocols such as SIP over TLS. Without it, calls can be intercepted or recorded by anyone on the path. On the exam, pair SRTP for the media plane with TLS based signaling protection, and recognize it as the confidentiality layer for VoIP traffic.
