BYOD
Bring Your Own Device
A model allowing personal devices for work, raising data and management concerns.
BYOD is a deployment model that lets employees use personally owned phones and laptops to access corporate resources, lowering hardware cost but reducing organizational control. The central tension is mixing personal and business data on a device the company does not own, which complicates patching, monitoring, and remote wiping. Mobile device management, containerization, and clear acceptable use policies help close the gap. It contrasts with COPE and CYOD, which grant the organization greater authority over the hardware.
Looking BYOD up is step one. Getting tested on it is step two.
