Information Systems Security Officer
The role responsible for the security of a specific information system.
An ISSO is accountable for the day to day security posture of a specific information system, including maintaining controls, documentation, and authorization status. The role is common in government and regulated settings that follow frameworks such as the NIST Risk Management Framework. The ISSO typically supports the system owner and reports security concerns upward. It is narrower in scope than a CISO, who sets enterprise wide strategy rather than safeguarding one system.
