SPIM

Spam over Instant Messaging

Unsolicited messages delivered through instant messaging platforms.

SPIM is unsolicited bulk messaging delivered through instant messaging or chat platforms rather than email, often carrying malicious links, scams, or malware. Because chat feels immediate and personal, recipients may trust and click more readily than with email spam, making it an effective social engineering vector. Defenses include contact controls, link filtering, and user awareness. On the exam, group it with related nuisance and delivery terms such as spam over email and smishing over SMS as channel specific variants.
