Wireless Transport Layer Security
The security layer of the legacy Wireless Application Protocol stack for mobile devices.
WTLS provided TLS-like confidentiality, integrity, and authentication for the old Wireless Application Protocol used by early mobile browsers on constrained networks. It is obsolete today, replaced by standard TLS as mobile devices gained the capability to run it directly. Its historical weakness was the WAP gap, where traffic was briefly decrypted at the gateway between WTLS and TLS. On the exam, recognize WTLS as a legacy mobile security protocol superseded by end-to-end TLS.
