HVAC

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning

Environmental controls; a target as an OT system and a data-center dependency.

HVAC systems regulate temperature and humidity, which is an environmental control essential to data center availability because overheating causes hardware failure and humidity extremes invite condensation or static damage. Many units are networked operational technology, making them an attack surface and a documented pivot point into corporate networks. It matters for both physical resilience and segmentation planning. A pitfall is leaving building automation on the same flat network as production systems rather than isolating these OT devices behind their own controls.
