LEAP
Lightweight Extensible Authentication Protocol
A Cisco EAP variant now considered weak and deprecated.
LEAP is a Cisco proprietary EAP method developed for wireless authentication before stronger standards matured. It relies on a challenge response scheme vulnerable to offline dictionary attacks, and tools demonstrated practical credential recovery, so it is deprecated. Modern deployments should use stronger methods such as EAP-TLS, which uses certificates, or PEAP, which protects credentials inside a TLS tunnel. LEAP appears on exams mainly as an example of a weak, outdated authentication choice to avoid.
