Redundant Array of Independent Disks
Combines disks for redundancy or performance.
Redundant Array of Independent Disks combines multiple physical drives into one logical unit to improve fault tolerance, performance, or both, depending on the level chosen. RAID 1 mirrors data, RAID 5 stripes with distributed parity, and RAID 0 stripes for speed with no redundancy. It supports availability, one pillar of the CIA triad, by surviving disk failures. A critical exam caveat is that RAID is not a backup, since it does not protect against deletion, corruption, or ransomware.
