SFTP

Secure File Transfer Protocol

File transfer carried over SSH for confidentiality and integrity.

SFTP transfers files inside an SSH session, encrypting both the commands and the data and authenticating the server, and often the client, through SSH keys or passwords. It should not be confused with FTPS, which is FTP wrapped in TLS, or with plain FTP, which sends credentials and content in clear text. Because it rides on a single SSH connection, SFTP is firewall friendly and a common secure replacement for legacy file transfer.
