Flash-based storage; wear leveling complicates secure erasure.
A solid state drive stores data in flash memory, offering speed and durability advantages over spinning disks. Its security challenge is secure erasure: wear leveling and over provisioning spread data across cells the operating system cannot directly address, so traditional overwrite wiping may leave recoverable remnants. Recommended sanitization uses the drive's built in cryptographic erase or ATA secure erase, or physical destruction. On the exam, connect SSD media to media sanitization concepts and the limitations of overwriting compared with hard disk drives.
