A desktop that runs on centralized infrastructure and is accessed remotely from a thin client.

A VDE delivers a user's desktop from centralized servers or cloud infrastructure so it can be reached from many devices while data stays in the data center rather than on the endpoint. This is closely related to virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and supports security goals such as central patching, easy revocation, and keeping sensitive data off lost or stolen devices. Risks shift to the broker, the host, and the access credentials, which must be hardened and monitored. On the exam, associate virtual desktops with centralized control and data containment for remote and BYOD work.
