Wi-Fi Protected Setup
A simplified Wi-Fi setup feature with known PIN brute-force weaknesses.
WPS was designed to simplify joining a wireless network using a PIN or push-button method instead of typing a passphrase. Its PIN exchange is split into two halves that can be validated separately, drastically reducing the guesses needed for a brute-force attack and exposing the network key. Because of this flaw it should be disabled on access points. It illustrates the recurring security lesson that convenience features can quietly undermine an otherwise strong configuration.
