Counter Mode/CBC-MAC Protocol
The AES-based encryption protocol used by WPA2.
CCMP is the AES based encryption protocol that secures WPA2 wireless networks, providing both confidentiality through counter mode and integrity through CBC-MAC. It replaced TKIP, the stopgap used by WPA, which was built to run on older WEP hardware and proved weak. CCMP delivers far stronger protection and is the expected choice for WPA2 deployments. WPA3 advances further by adopting GCMP and Simultaneous Authentication of Equals, but CCMP remains widely deployed and exam relevant.
