SWG

Secure Web Gateway

A control that filters and inspects web traffic to enforce policy.

A secure web gateway sits between users and the internet to inspect and filter web traffic, enforcing acceptable use policy, blocking malicious sites, and applying URL filtering, malware scanning, and TLS inspection. It protects users from web borne threats and can prevent data exfiltration over web channels. Modern deployments deliver it from the cloud as part of SASE for remote workforces. On the exam, relate the SWG to proxy based filtering and distinguish it from a firewall that controls broader network traffic.
