UPS
Uninterruptible Power Supply
A battery backup that maintains power during short outages.
A UPS supplies battery power during brief outages and conditions against sags and surges, giving systems time to ride through interruptions or shut down cleanly. It supports availability, the third pillar of the CIA triad, by preventing abrupt data loss and downtime. For longer outages it bridges to a generator rather than replacing one. A common pitfall is failing to test batteries, since aged cells may not deliver rated runtime when an outage actually occurs.
Looking UPS up is step one. Getting tested on it is step two.
